Building Official

Fort Gratiot Charter Township is seeking a person for the position of Building Official, approximately 20 hours per week. Some evening meetings may be required periodically. Click here for the full Building Official job description.

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Supervisor, responsible for overall direction and management of the Building Department in the enforcement of Building Codes and related Ordinances, the issuance of related permits and the licensing of contractors within the Charter Township of Fort Gratiot, to protect the health, safety and general welfare of the public. Also responsible for the supervision, evaluation, discipline and recommendation of hiring and discharge of all subordinate members of the Department. Performs related work, as required.

EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS:

Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with the general public and create and maintain a good working relationship with co-workers, Township officials, and the public. Working knowledge of spreadsheet and word processing software, experience with the BS&A municipal software systems preferred. Ability to work within specific time constraints and meet deadlines.

An employee in this class, upon appointment, should have the Plan Review and Building Inspector or equivalent and Building Official level designation by the State of Michigan, required; comprehensive knowledge of building code enforcement principles and practices, required.
